The British Barbers exists because a gentleman should still be able to walk into a barbershop in Singapore and leave looking sharper, calmer, and quietly confident, without noise, rush, or compromise.
We took the traditional British barbering ritual (the one you would have found on Jermyn Street a century ago) and brought it to a restored shophouse in the heart of Chinatown. Same scissors-over-comb precision, same hot towels, same straight-razor shaves, just five minutes from Outram Park MRT.
Every barber on our team has trained under Hassan Elgamal and follows the standards he perfected over twenty-five years across Egypt, Dubai, and now Singapore.
The result is simple: sharp haircuts, smoother shaves, and the kind of understated grooming that never goes out of style.
That is the legacy we keep alive every day.

Mr Hassan Elgamal

Hassan Elgamal opened The British Barbers because a proper haircut and shave should still feel like a quiet luxury in the middle of a busy day.
He began cutting hair in 1999 and earned his Master Barber Certificate in 2004 from one of Egypt’s most respected institutes. Years in Dubai followed, where he became private barber to His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and looked after ministers, ambassadors, CEOs, and bankers who expect absolute perfection.
In 2022 he brought that same standard to Singapore. Today every scissor cut, fade, and straight-razor hot towel shave in our Chinatown shophouse is done to the exact level of precision he has spent over twenty-five years perfecting.
Hassan still works behind the chair most days, and every member of the team is trained personally by him. When you sit with us, you are in the hands of a true master barber who is also a proud member of the British Barbers’ Association.

Shah has spent more than a decade cutting hair across Malaysia, and Singapore, and his chair has become one of the most requested at The British Barbers in Chinatown.
He has a quiet confidence with the clippers and scissors alike, specialising in clean taper fades, sharp modern crops, and versatile styles that look just as good in the boardroom as they do after work. Clients often tell us they finally found a barber who listens properly, suggests what actually suits their face and lifestyle, then delivers a cut that grows out cleanly and stays sharp for weeks.

There is great ambiance and the classical music is great with the atmosphere of the space. 5/5 will come back again when I'm visiting next time.
