Where is The British Barbers, and how do I get there?
We are at 37A Kreta Ayer Road, Singapore 089001, a few minutes on foot from Maxwell MRT, in a quiet restored shophouse.
Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?
We work mostly by appointment, and it is the surest way to get the time and the barber you want. If a chair is free we are glad to take a walk in, though the evenings tend to fill early. You can book a chair here.
What are your opening hours?
Sunday to Friday, 9am to 8pm. Saturday, 11am to 8pm.
How much does a haircut cost?
Prices depend on the service, from a straightforward cut to the full wedding morning. You will see the price for each service when you book a chair.
Do you do skin fades and modern cuts?
Yes. Fades, tapers, crops and modern detail are part of the everyday work here. You can read how we approach one in our piece on skin fades.
Do you do traditional wet shaves?
Yes. The hot towel and the straight razor are a signature of the shop, in the Traditional Shave and the Ultimate British Shave.
Do you cut children's hair?
Yes, we offer a children's haircut.
Can I request a particular barber?
Yes. You can choose your barber when you book. The team is Hassan El Gamal, the Master Barber and founder, and Shahrul Nizam, our Senior Barber.
Do you do beard grooming, hair colour, threading and waxing?
Yes. Beard trims and beard work, hair colour and highlights, eyebrow and cheek threading, and nose, ear and eyebrow waxing are all part of the menu.
How far ahead should I book?
A few days is usually enough. For weddings and big occasions give us more notice, so we can plan the visits properly.
